Today we observe the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. And so, in keeping with the themes of this day, we go back in the story of Jeremiah to Jeremiah 26. It’s a(nother) time when Jeremiah was almost put to death for preaching the Word of the LORD. But what’s especially noteworthy is the final part of this passage, which tells the story of another prophet who, like Jeremiah, was faithful to the LORD. But Uriah, unlike Jeremiah, was killed.
And so, from this basis, we explore the fundamental conflict between those way of the LORD and the power of this world, and the fundamental connection between faithfulness to Jesus and suffering.
