The Most Important Thing about Us: Jeremiah 7:1-8:3

Nothing quite like the experience of driving a vehicle that is wildly out of alignment. A similar experience can occur in our lives when we live at odds with the most important thing in our lives—that we are attached to the LORD and He has attached Himself to us.

This is the central complain of Jeremiah’s “Temple Sermon.” It’s an offensive and provocative sermon, delivered to people on their way to attend church, to awaken them to a deep and troubling problem in their lives. They are the people “called by God’s Name,” but they live like evil pagans. That’s not okay!

This same deep tension appears through the Bible, and is an important thing to reflect on, even for Christians.
